The story of Hello Vegan is a simple one.
Hello Vegan is a little zine created by me, Jill Krasnicki.
I had intended Hello Vegan to be a once off “how-to guide”, and to my surprise people seemed to like it.
But they not only liked it, they started asking when the next issue would be out.
Well, hey, no problem there, I’ve got lots to say! I could talk about veganism till I’m blue in the face. So I happily trotted off and wrote volume 2.
Now, this would be the test, I told myself. No longer a how-to guide, but an article based zine –would people still dig it? Were my limited writing skills up to the challenge?
Again, the feedback was positive.
People started contacting me, submitting articles and drawings. Hello Vegan was taking shape, getting followers. So why not keep a good thing going? Why not reach out as far as possible?
That’s where this website comes into play – to reach out.
I want to spread the truth about the cruelty inflicted on animals by human hands. I want to encourage people to adopt a compassionate lifestyle.
I want to create a support network for vegans. I want, most of all, a better world.
I believe in sharing information, knowledge and know-how. I look at my own past – I was born and raised a meat-eater, and even when I became vegetarian I considered veganism an extreme way to live.
I now know, however, that being vegan is actually the simplest way to live and the healthiest and I’ve never been happier.
But I couldn’t have made that change without the information I received and without the work of activists revealing the horrors of the animal industries. Information is key, sharing is vital. It’s how we create change.
That’s where, I hope, Hello Vegan slips into all this. This small zine is designed to be an easy read and easy to share. It aims to be interesting and entertaining for vegans, and informative for non-vegans. It’s written with the hope that it might somehow make a difference to someone or something, somewhere.
Thank you for reading.
