What does being vegan mean?
The definition of vegan is “A person who does not eat or use animal products”.
But being vegan is more than not eating or using animal products – being vegan is a lifestyle!
Being vegan means a healthier you, a cleaner planet and a better deal for animals. In fact, being vegan could very well be the answer to some of the world’s biggest problems.
Veganism is a movement that is growing stronger by the day as people all over the world are discovering the sad truth behind the animal industry. This industry is a money making machine - it kills and tortures millions of animals each year, destroys the environment and puts people at risk, all in the name of profits.
The animal industry contributes largely to world hunger, global warming and environmental destruction. Factory farms and slaughterhouses violate human rights and are the highest producers of greenhouse gasses.
Industries based around the use of animals refuse to acknowledge that animals feel pain and experience emotional torment and stress, just like humans. Instead they continue to use them with total disregard for their suffering, trapping them in horrific situations and subjecting them to grotesque mistreatment.
But there is good news!
We don’t need to use animals to survive in our day to day life. We don’t need to eat them, wear them, test on them or use them for entertainment. In fact, we’re better off if we don’t. And while it may seem as though you have to give up a lot of things to be vegan, it’s actually about discovering a whole world of new flavours, ideas and possibilities.
Veganism isn’t extreme, unhealthy or something for your parents to get upset about.
Veganism is an ethical, full-hearted decision to take matters into your own hands and make the world a better place.
